Hi, I’m Charles – nice to digitally meet you.
A little about me: I have a PhD in clinical psychology, provide virtual Individual Guidance, and am a college-level psychology instructor as well as a long-time meditation practitioner. I have experience leading in-person and online mindfulness and meditation courses for a variety of audiences including college students, military personnel, athletes, and the general community (and hopefully for you). I’ve also published original research in the peer-reviewed journal Mindfulness and write the Mindful Lens column for Nature’s Best Photography Magazine.

My goal here is to combine my knowledge and experiences from the worlds of psychology and mindfulness – two worlds that I believe coalesce quite nicely - in order to provide you with a unique training. I’m also a lover of philosophy and I believe that nothing is out of bounds in the realm of well-being, so I will draw upon a variety of sources and traditions within these courses without espousing any particular ideology. This is all part of my "capital T Truth" perspective (more on that inside the training).

Each year I travel to a Zen Buddhist monastery for two weeks or so. This is not because I consider myself “Buddhist” (I don’t), but rather I see this as an essential yearly tradition of galvanizing my meditation practice with one-pointed focus and no distraction, making me a better instructor and hopefully a wiser, more compassionate person.

I’m here to help you learn some tools to become less reactive and more focused in life, and more able to enjoy and do whatever it is you do with less struggle (what I refer to as “internal friction” in the course). Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you in one of my courses!

TESTIMONIAL: "I became familiar with Mindfulness my last year of college. What started as a once a week group session has evolved into an individual and personal practice that I truly believe has changed my perspective and approach to life. Upon joining medical school, I was so excited to learn about Charles's Mindfulness & Meditation course. His course allowed me to continue learning about Mindfulness and make sure I maintained my practice during the often stressful moments of medical school. Charles is so knowledgeable about incorporating Mindfulness into the health care professional's everyday experience. He introduced us to novel mindfulness exercises that helped improve my focus, decrease feelings of burnout, and steadied me in times I might have otherwise felt overwhelmed. Most importantly, Mindfulness has allowed me to stay present and in the moment."

TESTIMONIAL: "This course was very informative about being mindful of not only myself but every aspect of my life and how to effectively approach it. The use of video was great for allowing you to go back to certain videos and really take in the information and practice the different exercises. The meditation part was well needed, being a full time college student and working 2 jobs there are plenty of times were I needed to just slow down and meditate to get through the day. Charles was very easy to reach and responded within a timely manner. He focused on the important concepts and didn't over load you with meaningless stuff. I wish it was longer but I still refer back to the videos from time to time. Great course I would definitely recommend it to other students."
